Handbags with Humanity

IMadeYourHandbag Fashion Revolution week 2016 is 18th to 24th April. In promotion of ethical trading in the fashion, textiles and garment industry worldwide, we all need to ask ‘Who Made My Clothes?’

I’ve been very lucky to have met my manufacturing partner in India many years ago and more recently we moved production to a remote village around 3 hours from Chennai, where we now employ 100’s of women from the village. It’s a 9 to 5.30 job for them, not a 16 hour day like you hear about in some awful sweatshops.

I’ll be introducing you to some of my ladies over the next weeks and months but in the meantime, here’s a link to an e-booklet I wrote recently about what I’ve seen in my 25+ years in the industry: Handbags with Humanity

Remember to ask the brands you buy from this week and every week, ‘Who made my clothes?’

Here are just a few of our ladies (and one man) at our workshop, Jyothi, Vijayakumari, Pramilla, Monica, Swathi, Sujatha, Masthanamma and Narashiman.
