Un Mechoui en France

Mechoui? Mechoui? Qu’est-ce que c’est?

It’s a BBQ lamb roast with starter, cheese and pudding.

IMAG1430_1In order to get the 3 or 4 hundred people served with slightly hot food, all you have to do is cook 30 to 40 legs of lamb over a bonfire in a field and get the pommes frites man to serve at the right time. Take your tray to the serving tent and pick up a four course meal. Voila!

Afterwards there’s the ‘win a chicken/ duck’ competition (you’re supposed to take it home to fatten for eating – we put our duck on the pond).

IMAG1427_1I can only compare the annual Mechoui to our November 5th, bonfire night in the UK. The whole village comes out to take part.

IMAG1431_1Les Anglais et les Francais… parleying ensemble. Don’t mention le Brexit….

Have you been to any local events on your travels? I’d love to know it’s not just me 🙂

Phew so glad you sent the duck to the pond.

Thé French think we’re crazy not to pluck and eat them.
The pond is nice and clean now though 🙂
