Shona’s shoe guide to: Turkey (don’t ditch the heels)

Travelling on the Cheap: Moi?

Well, yes, trying to!

I have recently been to Turkey for a few days….so I decided to pack light. (I know you wouldn’t expect anything less of me!) And – who wants to pay £30 to EasyJet just to check in luggage anyway? The flight was expensive enough – the luggage was not going to cost me extra!

The 'Taxi to the Restaurant' shoes

Just the 2 pairs of shoes then, I thought. One for going out and looking good (well I was expecting to be wined and dined – actually!) and a comfy pair for everything else.

The ‘everything else’ turned out to be everything after the 1st posh lunch out in Old Side on the Anatolian coast!

Been there Before?

I have been to Turkey before so I should have known better. But – walking and chatting – you don’t necessarily need to look down at the pavement all the time do you?

Well, yes – you should if you are wearing high heels in Turkey. The pavements are littered with potholes – large & small, although size is irrelevant if you happen to trip up in one! And sprain your ankle :-/

The missing flats: See they would have fitted in my handbag too!

We need a Fashion Footwear Website to recommend what to wear where!

I wonder if Conde Nast Traveller have ever thought of recommending what sort of footwear would be most appropriate on your travels! I’m sure I could make quite a few suggestions.

Don’t Ditch the Heels!

So, in conclusion – don’t ditch the heels – just make sure the taxi actually delivers you right to your hotel instead of dropping you at the nearest (not very near) taxi rank.

And….take a pair of flats in your handbag incase of surly taxi driver ;o)
