Made in Britain

Look at these totally amazing intricate Tweed cloth pieces from Johnstons of Elgin.  http://www.johnstonscashmere.com/ Made in Britian, in the Highlands of Scotland.

When to Buy

Each year, in February, they have a sale of their fabric and this time I was lucky enough to be able to buy around 16metres of it at the special sale prices.  (If only they had MORE available!)

I love their designs – the subtle background colours and the muted highlights in the check make wonderful fabrics for my handbags, wallets and purses. I can’t wait to get these to my factory with instructions for what I want.

The Fabric is my Inspiration

I very often find that it’s the fabric that gives me the inspiration for a new design – I can imagine how it will look and feel in a lovely bag with soft leather trim .

Thank you to Aileen at Johnstons for the special service in sorting and sending this gorgeous fabric to me.  Usually I love to visit and look for myself but the sale crept up on me so quickly I didn’t have time to get up to the North of Scotland to visit.

Oh well, I’ll be back there soon!

If you are ever up in the Highlands, Johnstons of Elgin is a must visit. Over the last few years they have converted some old mill houses by the factory into a fantastic visitors centre and you can even book a tour of the real factory to see the Tweed making process from fleece to the finished article! http://www.johnstonscashmere.com/index.php/heritage-centre

Of course there is also an amazing shop! You can buy clothing for men, women, children, accessories, homewares and local foods. And – don’t leave without having lunch or tea at the cafe.
