Famous Handbags: The Fendi Baguette

I can’t believe that the Fendi Baguette bag is 15 years old this year! This small but perfectly formed underarm handbag was released in 1997 and was an instant hit.

A Fendi Baguette bag from A/W 1997. A special edition of this beautiful multicoloured embroidered bag with leather trim has been re-released in 2012

Out of the designer ‘it’ bags, this has to be my favourite. It is called the ‘baguette’ because of its shape and for the fact that you carry it under your arm as you would a French baguette 🙂

Over the years Fendi have made the same shape bag in so many diffferent fabrics and leathers, furs, embroidered and sequined.

You will just want to stroke this one in multi colour ponyskin (cow hide, actually).

This design from 1999 is in what looks like a chunky aran knit wool!

My favourite, it's understated and in beautiful leather with just the perfect handstitching all around the edges.

These photos (courtesy of Fendi) are some of my personal favourites but you can see the whole range of designs from 1997 to the present day on the Fendi website. It’s a fabulous archive.
