Man Bag: An Interview with my Dad

When I first wrote about this man bag design, I thought it was for busy professionals and arty types but my very smartly dressed 73 year old Dad, a retired scientist, loves it too!

Just before Christmas, my Mum got asked (like she does every year) whether she would be hosting another handbag sale of my designs. Normally she hosts and I do the selling but this time I really couldn’t take time out for this so Mum decided to host and do the sales herself. I think she could have a second career as a salesperson because she topped the ‘at home’ sales record by miles!

At the end of the sale, little did I know but Mum had done a little shopping herself and bought the Trekker Man Bag for my Dad for Christmas.

So here’s what he thinks:

Shona: What was your first thought when you opened your present to find a khaki and brown canvas & leather fairly large Man Bag in there?

Dad: Wow, just what I need.

S: Why do you say that?

D: I know I always carry too much and now I can get it all into one bag instead of stuffing it into trouser and jacket pockets. I like the adjustable strap because you can shorten it and wear it on one shoulder or lengthen it to wear it across across the body.

S: What do you think about the number of pockets – are there too many?

D: No definitely not too many, I think it’s good to have loads of pockets. Actually I keep discovering new ones. I like the  fact that some of them are zipped – especially the ones on the outside. Security wise, sometimes I don’t zip up the main zip but I still feel it’s secure because the long flap over the top keeps the bag closed.

S: So do you know where to find everything?

D: I keep the main things in the centre of the bag so I can get to them easily and I like the fact you can get a A4 paperwork in there too.

S: You haven’t mentioned the key clip, did you know there was a key clip inside?

D: I did know there was a key clip inside but I haven’t used it yet because I still keep my keys in my pocket.

S: Any final comments?

D: It’s smarter than a rucksack, it’s a colour that I personally wouldn’t have chosen but I really like it. It particularly goes with all my smart casual clothes. Also, for someone my age, who would never have dreamt of carrying a bag all the time: it is a very convienient portable carry-all. At the moment we are on a multiple destination holiday, so right now its extremely useful for carrying everthing from travel documents, passports, medication and all other essentials that we dare not lose.

S: Thanks Dad!
