How To Be An Organised Traveller

It helps to be organised when travelling mainly because there is usually a schedule to adhere to. Here’s how I stay organised.

Use a Travel Wallet

My top tip for having all your documents, cash, credit cards & passport to hand when travelling is to use a travel wallet.
My travel wallet is one of my own designs and I thought a lot about this design before I put it into production.

Design & Comments

Design is a very subjective thing: People either love or hate a design which helps them decide whether something is for them.

Regarding my travel wallet design, I have had comments such as:

  • If only it had a zip around to keep everything secure, I would buy it
  • Don’t you do one with a flapover to cover the open edge?

No, I don’t and here’s why I designed my travel wallet as it is:

  • My travel wallet is tall enough to hold an airline standard boarding card and a folded A4 printed at home one too but its not too long to fit into a fairly small size handbag. (A zip around or flapover travel wallet design would be at least 3cm taller).
  • My travel wallet is wide enough to hold a passport but still narrow enough to fit into a gentlemans suit breast pocket. (A zip around or flapover design would be too wide).
  • My travel wallet has all the pockets you need for separating different currencies, tickets, etc as well as slots for credit cards and more yet it is still a compact handy size.

The tab & press stud clip easily around even the most over stuffed wallet, neatly holding everything in place. (I have to confess that I modified the contents of my wallet before I took this pic – it was previously stuffed with receipts galore as well as everything else!)

Why Keep Everything Together?

Everything is in one place so when you need things at the same time, they are all together.

For example:

  • When checking in for a flight you need your passport and ticket or reservation document and you may also need your credit card or airline loyalty card: They are all in one place!
  • At passport control you sometimes also need your boarding card: Both in same place!
  • In duty free you need your boarding pass and cash or cards: Both in same place!
  • As you board the flight you need your passport and boarding pass: Both in same place!
  • On the aircraft, when filling in a landing card, you need passport details and hotel address from your reservation document: Both in same place!

What do you think?

Have I converted you to thinking a travel wallet is a good idea or do you already use one? If not, where do you keep all your documents, cards and cash when you travel?
