Following the last few posts about the Tour de France, I thought I’d stay on the cycling theme and share one of my old designs from 13 or 14 years ago.
The ‘Velo’ collection included 2 styles with bicycle inner tube handles shown above.
The leather was from an Italian tannery and it was the first time I experimented with a leather featuring a different colour on the suede side. The contrast between black and red was picked out with heavy red stitching on the outside of the bag. Obviously I didn’t want to add lining to these designs because I wanted the red suede to be the main feature, so I added a detachable purse to each bag, clipped on for security.
I know some of these bags are still going strong, so I’d love to hear from you if you have one!
Also, I’m thinking of revisiting the inner tube handle idea. What do you think?
do you make these bags?
Hi Honey, I design them and have them ethically made in my workshop in rural India. I’d love to make them all myself but there’s not enough time π
Great idea !
Thanks Lise π
Beautiful bags! They look very classy and spacious.
Thank you Jorge
Very impressed with the creativity Shona, but prefer the cycling updates π
Thanks Mike π
Love the inner tube handles–how fun! When I was living in the Netherlands, I was looking for a bag that would attach to the handlebars in the front. Have you made any like that?
Hi Michele, Acutally I have designed and made some bicycle bags – for handlebars, rack and pannier attachment for a company in the UK called Bryht Design. Here’s a link to the pink handlebar bag (it also comes in navy harris tweed and in khaki canvas)
