3 tips for keeping your handbag looking as good as new

.
Some people will think these tips are obvious but I thought I would share them with you because I have come across a surprising number of people who don’t do this!
.
If you want your handbag to stay looking great then follow these 3 easy tips.
.

1) Don’t throw your bag around.

What I mean is don’t just chuck it in the muddy footwell of your car. Mud can stick to leather like glue and generally needs to be removed with at least a damp cloth, if not a full scrub under the tap (not the best thing for many types of leather). If your bag is suede or fabric, the mud will get into the fibres much more easily and you will really be stuck. See my previous post on how to clean a suede bag.
If you must put your bag on the floor, then at least check the floor is clean!
.

2) If it has one, always store your bag in it’s dust bag when not in use.

A dust bag, or protective cover will prevent tiny dust particles getting into the seams and creases – both places where it is difficult to clean out. If you’ve ever left a bag under the bed for a few months without a dust cover, you’ll know what I’m talking about!
.

3) Check you haven’t left anything in the pockets

When you ‘move out’ of one bag and into another (especially when this is a temporary move & you’ll be wanting to go back to using that bag later), check all the pockets to make sure you haven’t left anything in them. I’m particularly thinking about sweets that can go all sticky in the lining, or chocolate which could melt all over your bag. Remove all pens incase the lids come off and the ink leaks on your bag.
Basically just empty the bag and then it’ll be looking great for you the next time you are ready to use it!
.
